The Spain Wing Foil League kicks off in Chiclana de la Frontera from April 27th to 30th in La Barrosa with a Downwind race
Chiclana continues to position itself as a reference in the organization of water sports events, where the Spain Wingfoil League plays an important role with the organization of events since 2021.
This year 2024 the S.W.L. also introduces a new modality: the Downwind, booming within the Watersports Industry. Discipline that meets all the conditions to be practiced in the waters of Chiclana, with light winds and swell that make the SUP Foil boards take off and literally fly above the water. The competitions to be held are:
- Spanish Cup Wingfoil 2024, in the modalities of Surf Freestyle and Surf Slalom.
- Championship of Andalusia Wingfoil 2024, also in both modalities.
- Open Downwind SUP & Wing Foil depending on the conditions.
The S.W.L Chiclana is organized since 2021, always presenting innovative actions that make this event one of the most anticipated in the season. Confirmed the attendance of international athletes such as the current World Champion Nia Suardíaz, the brothers Tom and Aleks Acherer from Switzerland who already stand out in World Cup events or the Danish Benji Castenskiold of only 13 years 3rd in the last Junior World Cup held in La Palma.
The event will also bring together the best national riders among which stand out the Tarifeños Nathan Berguer and Leo Suardíaz, the Galician Martin Tieles or the Malaga River Moore that with only 15 years is the current SubChampion of Spain Surf Freestyle.
The S.W.L. 2024 Circuit will consist of two national events, one in Chiclana at the end of April and another from June 14 to 16 in Oliva – Valencia, in addition to the Junior World Championship that for the second year will be held in La Palma. The Spain Wingfoil League consolidates as the Circuit with more GWA World Cup Junior events organized: GWA YWCup Oliva in 2022 and GWA YWC La Palma in 2023 and 2024.
The Open Downwind SUP & Wingfoil comes to complete this event and thus offer a pioneering test in Spain, which will be attended by international athletes such as waterman Fred Bonnef or the French International Yann Quilfen of Team FOne & Manera, or great national athletes such as Ramon Pastor (European Champion Windsurf) or Ruben Yayu from Mallorca. This test will be a contact for future national tests once this modality is established.
It is estimated that the competition will feature about 50 athletes, coming from all over Spain (Catalonia, Valencia, Canary Islands, and Andalusia mainly) where we can enjoy the spectacle of the best specialists in Freestyle.
The national fleet stands out for its youth and for its great role in the Youth World Cup Wingfoil last year, where Spain shone again getting several podiums.
